Notice
From March through June, all plants are sent in full leaf and actively growing. It’s normal for them to look a little tired after their journey—some wilt, bent stems, or loosened soil can happen during shipping. Don’t worry! With a good drink of water and a few days to settle in, your plants will bounce right back and start thriving.

What you need to know

As a container tree you will have little maintenance other than watering and trimming in the spring to shape. We recommend using our 360-day timed release fertilizer HI COTE  19-4-12 for year-round feeding. As a container planter remember to water thoroughly each time till the water runs out of the bottom holes of your pot. This will reduce frequency and causing root issues.

Creative Ideas:

If your container is large enough, you can pair your tree with complimentary plants like Dwarf Mondo Grass, Blue Pacific Juniper, Foxtail Ferns, or Vinca vines.

Care:

Fertilize in early spring with our SR-18-5-10 slow release fertilizer for maximum growth and plant health.

It’s a tree-form (standard hydrangea tree) version of the panicle hydrangea cultivar Hydrangea paniculata ‘Rensun’, trained on a single trunk with a rounded head. It produces large hydrangea flowers that open white and age to rich strawberry-red tones from summer into fall. This selection is also sold as First Editions® Strawberry Sundae® Hydrangea Standard Tree.

How do I care for Strawberry Sundae Hydrangea Standard Tree in a container?

Use a pot with drainage holes and water deeply until excess runs out the bottom each time, then let the top inch or two of mix dry slightly before watering again. Place it in sun for best flowering, as this is a full sun hydrangea (especially in cooler climates). Do light shaping and deadwood removal in early spring to maintain a neat standard hydrangea tree form.

Are Strawberry Sundae Hydrangea Standard Tree blooms good for pollinators and cutting?

The showy panicle hydrangea blooms can attract beneficial visitors like bees and butterflies when in flower.
