In warmer climates, it benefits from afternoon shade to avoid extreme heat. In early spring, prune brown stems close to the ground for a neat and refreshed appearance. To promote new growth and repeated blooming, trim flower spikes after initial flowering. When planting, water frequently until the plant is established. Avoid over-fertilizing as it may result in fewer flowers. Plant 18 inches apart and dig a hole twice as wide as the container, backfill with soil, and water regularly.
