The Kousa Dogwood is a visually stunning deciduous tree that thrives in all seasons, providing a lively display of flowers, fruits, and changing foliage. It grows 15 - 30 feet tall and wide, making it a perfect addition to gardens for gardeners of all ages.

This tree has a slow growth rate, reaching maturity in 10 to 15 years. It can serve as a beautiful shrub in its early years, growing up and out in a vase shape. As it matures, it develops more branches and fills out, creating a pyramid shape as the branches grow horizontally.

The Kousa Dogwood, also known as the Japanese tree, is closely related to the North American Dogwood and is native to Japan, Korea, and China. Unlike its native counterpart, this deciduous tree produces its blooms after the leaves have grown. Blooming in late spring, the flowers range from white to light pink and last for up to a month due to their bracts, a type of leaf, instead of petals. The blooms stand out against the dark green foliage, creating a stunning contrast. Each flower has four pointed bracts that resemble small stars, giving the appearance of a tree covered in stars. The Kousa Dogwood's blooms appear a month later than other dogwoods, making it a great addition to the landscape for a succession of blooms.

During fall, the Kousa Dogwood produces berry-like fruits that change color from green to a rich red-pink. These fruits are safe for consumption and can also be used to make jams and wine. The tree also attracts birds to the garden and has beautiful foliage and bark year-round.

Kousa Dogwood is a low-maintenance, disease-resistant tree with minimal pruning needs. Avoid topping the tree to prevent stunted growth and injury.

This deer-resistant tree can live up to 150 years in zones 5-8 and prefers acidic, well-drained soils with moderate watering. It is perfect for specimen or border planting, near a patio, or as a year-round landscape feature.
