A trellis, wire, or other structure is necessary for support, but the plant gently wraps around items no more than 3/4 inch wide, preventing any damage and making cleaning easy. To keep its roots cool and moist, this clematis enjoys shade at its base, making it a great addition to low-growing varieties that can provide both shade and color in your garden. Additionally, clematis thrives in sunny conditions, doing particularly well in full sun. For mass planting, space the plants 2 to 3 feet apart.
