With a playful burst of color nestled among walkway pavers or on slopes and challenging mowing areas, 'Chocolate Chip' Ajuga serves as an ideal groundcover. Also called Bugleweed, this compact variety grows to a height of 2-3 inches and spreads 6-9 inches wide. Vibrant indigo blooms adorn the flower spikes in early spring and summer, releasing a lovely fragrance. The small, glossy leaves add to the plant's appeal with shades ranging from rich copper to deep burgundy to dark green, reminiscent of a chocolatey treat. This versatile groundcover also fills out containers and beds beautifully, making it a favorite among gardeners of all ages.

Chocolate Chip Ajuga is an easy-to-care-for European perennial. It's low-maintenance and can grow in a variety of climates, making it a great choice for gardeners of all ages.

For best results, plant Chocolate Chip Ajuga in early spring, after the risk of frost has passed. If planting in mass, space each plant 8 to 15 inches apart. In humid areas, increase the spacing between plants to promote better air circulation. When planting, make sure the crown is level with or slightly above the soil to prevent water from pooling. Gently loosen the roots to encourage spreading, compact the soil, and water to settle the plant. Adding a layer of mulch will shield the roots and minimize weeds during the establishment period.
