Bald Cypress | Taxodium distichum

Bald Cypress Taxodium distichum is a deciduous conifer (hence the name bald) in the family Cupressaceae. This stately tree can reach heights of 60 feet and widths of 30 feet. Foliage is light and feathery in appearance. It has a green tinge with a whitish undercarriage in the spring and summer that turns orangish-red into the fall. Bald Cypress thrives in wet conditions, but will perform just as well in moderate conditions.

The Bald Cypress is good for the environment as well. It aids in the filtration of pollutants and helps filter sediments in the ground. This wonderful tree stands out in any landscape with its flared trunk, broad pyramidal form, and excellent fall color. Even during dormancy, this tree will continue to provide color with its reddish-coppery bark and stems.
