December Landscape Checklist

Our December Landscape Checklist is a practical guide for homeowners, gardeners, and landscapers to keep their outdoor spaces thriving even during the colder months. As winter sets in, it’s essential to address a few key areas to prepare for the season and ensure your landscape is healthy and well-maintained come spring. Here’s a detailed breakdown of what a December Landscape Checklist

 Pruning:

  1. Prune dormant trees and shrubs to shape and remove dead or damaged branches.
  2. Avoid pruning spring-flowering plants now; wait until after they bloom.
Mulching:
  1. Apply a fresh layer of mulch (2-3 inches) around the base of plants to insulate roots and retain soil moisture.
  2. Keep mulch a few inches away from trunks/stems to prevent rot.

Winter Protection:

  1.  Cover delicate plants with burlap or protective wraps to shield from harsh winds and frost.
  2. Add straw or frost cloth to protect newly planted shrubs or trees or tender perennials.
  3. Use anti-desiccant sprays on broadleaf evergreens to prevent winter burn.
Ensure your landscape is ready to face winter's chill and emerge healthy in spring!
